A force for GOOD
We believe fashion can, and should, be used as a force for good.
Living wages ensure each person who makes our clothes can afford the basic necessities for human survival; things like food, shelter, medical care, and education for their kids... but there's more. Honourable jobs also provide the necessities for human flourishing… less tangible things - like dignity, purpose and community.
The honourable, living wage jobs created by our certified fair trade partners provide a vivid contrast to garment industry norms, especially those in developing nations where "legal wages" can be less than half - and as little as 1/5 the cost of living.
With no further ado, let us introduce you to our truly remarkable makers...
MEET OUR MAKER
A woman, once trapped in unimaginable poverty, is offered an honourable job and welcomed into a supportive community; her dignity restored and her family's future rewritten.
These are the stories behind our CHARACTER Tees.
Visiting JOYYA (Freeset) in Kolkata, India, we saw firsthand how honourable employment opportunities are writing brighter futures for women once trapped in unimaginable poverty.
A certified member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), JOYYA was established in 2001 with a vision to serve the women of Sonagachi; Asia’s largest red-light district.
Welcomed into the JOYYA family, the courageous women who make our t-shirts find a supportive community and vital resources like in-house child care, education, and counselling services.
“Every woman who finds freedom through Freeset also brings freedom to her family. She finds hope for a brighter future and the means to make it a reality.” ~ JOYYA
JOYYA has been on their own exciting journey recently; expanding the vision for what sustainable business and community flourishing can look like Sonagachi. Now operating under JOYYA, we are honoured to continue growing alongside this amazing partner.

MEET OUR MAKER
The basics: A mom earns a fair, living wage to provide sufficiently for family. Her children are able to attend school.
The bonus: Business' profits fund social programs to care for and champion the community's most vulnerable.
These are the brighter-future stories behind our CAPSULE Collections.
Five sewing machines, a desire to provide dignified work for 10 hearing impaired girls and one determined Franciscan Sister; this was the humble beginning of our manufacturing partner Assisi Garments.
Now an internationally recognized, fair trade certified, fabric mill and garment manufacturer, Assisi provides 300+ honourable, living wage jobs in Southern India community of Avinashi.
A forerunner in social enterprise and sustainable business, Assisi Garments became one of India’s first companies to achieve GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification after committing to 100% organic cotton all the way back in 1997.
Beyond the life-changing impact created by their living-wage jobs, we love knowing Assisi Garments’ profits are used to support their community's most vulnerable members; funding schools for the blind and deaf, a care home for the elderly, an orphanage, a cancer hospital and programs for those with mental challenges, AIDS and leprosy.
It’s our pleasure to partner with Assisi Garments on our Author-original fabrics and designs found in the NOTEBOOK, PUNCTUATION and LIBRARY collections.
